Edward Ardizzone (1900-1979), The Uncensored Eye: Paintings, Watercolours and Prints.
Monnow Valley Arts CentreFrom 30/05/09 until 19/07/09 - Thursday & Friday 11 am - 6 pm, Saturday & Sunday 2 - 5 pm
With photographs by Nicholas Ardizzone (1939-2004), Edward's son and sculpture by Quentin Clemence, Edward's grandson. Edward Ardizzone was a well known book illustrator and author of children's books. His special gift was to record, in a non-judgmental way, the seedy side of life - tarts, drunks and bullies are all the subject of his acute observation. Contrasted with his work are the photographs of his son Nicholas, which show many of the same non-conformist traits as his father's work.
